Since his on-screen “death” in Nine Inch Nails’ infamous “Happiness in Slavery” video, writer and artist Bob Flanagan has become a legend in art, pain, and sexuality. First published by Hanuman Books in 1987, Fuck Journal chronicles Flanagan’s intimate year-long relationship with his partner Sheree Rose. Written at Rose’s urging and preceding his renowned Pain Journal, its raw portrayal of their conjugal life led Indian authorities to dump the original print run at sea before shipment to New York. Luckily, 300 copies carried by the editors reached the US and survived.
