Poetics of Place

How does poetry emerge from place and what knowledge of place can poetry reveal – especially for architects? This first volume of the Writingplace book series investigates how the connections between architecture and poetry can offer insights into the production of spatial understanding and the design of place. ‘Poetics of Place’ approaches questions of place from two poetic angles. In the book’s first section, the chapters present a literary perspective, investigating how poetic language evokes a sense of situatedness. In the second section, place is explored from the perspective of practice by authors who operate between architecture and poetry, using poetic writing as a way of investigating place. The third part features interviews with people who put this poetic approach into practice.
